Answer

Dear Patron,

Thank you for your inquiry. To begin your research, the first step is to generate ideas for your topic. Consider using broader terms, narrower terms, and related terms. For instance, based on your query, you could use keywords like "child development AND play," "early childhood education AND learning," or simply "play AND Education."

To find books, you can utilize the Online Public Access Catalog, accessible at this link: Online Public Access Catalog.

To access the UWLInC page of the universitywhich also includes books, please follow this https://www.open.uwi.edu/library

Once you are on the UWLInC page, use the search box to input your keywords. If you're using a phrase, try to keep it concise, ideally consisting of 3 to 4 words. You can also enclose your search phrase in inverted commas for an exact phrase search. Click the "search" button to view the results in the database.

You can further refine your results by selecting specific topics, the UWI campus, peer-reviewed journals (which is highly recommended for scholarly resources), books, and more on the right side of your screen.

lease note that the availability of books may vary depending on your campus or location. It's advisable to contact your local site library to confirm the physical availability of a book at your site. See list of available Global Campus libraries in Trinidad here: https://www.open.uwi.edu/library/libraries#otherlibraries

For articles and other electronic resources, choose the search result you wish to view and click "view fulltext" or "other econtent available." This will display all the databases subscribed to by the university that contain the particular resource. Click "go," which will lead you to a summary or abstract of the article or resource. Keep in mind that you will need to authenticate your access with your UWI login credentials (student ID and password).

On the resulting page, look for "html fulltext" or "pdf fulltext," usually located on the left or top right of the screen. You can then read, save, download, or email the resource to yourself. Please note that each resource opens in a separate window for your convenience.

You also have the option to conduct a search in the ebook library below the UWILinC search box.  Rather than downloading the entire ebook, seek out the PDFs and save the pertinent chapters in PDF format.

Here are a couple of resources to kickstart your exploration:
